Markets

Incidence of Cancer
Each year, cancer claims millions of lives. This year alone, estimates indicate that cancer will claim 7.2 million people worldwide. In the US, cancer will claim an estimated 550,000 people and consequently account for approximately 25% of all deaths that will occur in the US this year. Statistics further predict that 2.3 million new cases of cancer were diagnosed in the US in 2005. Even more daunting, in the US alone medical data suggests that 1 in 2 men will get cancer, as will 1 woman in 3, over their respective lifetimes.

Incidence of Ophthalmic Disease
In the United States, 35 million people experience Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD), Diabetic Retinopathy, Glaucoma, and Cataracts. These conditions can lead to loss of independence and significantly reduce quality of life.

Today, 9 million people in the United States over the age of 40 have intermediate-to-advanced stage vision loss caused by AMD. One out of every two people over age 85 have AMD, and the population of individuals over age 85 is the most rapidly growing segment of the population.

Currently, more than four million Americans over the age of 40 have diabetic retinopathy, or about 1 in 12.

By 2020, our nation will likely have more than 50 million Americans with significant vision loss or blindness.

With the incidence of disease in both markets so high, the amount of money spent on medical care, pharmaceuticals and research reaches into the billions of dollars each year. The success of CIF as a medical treatment in either market would insure Biomega's commercial and financial success.

Intellectual Property

Biomega Laboratories has licensed the rights to the CIF technology from NYUSM in exchange for conducting CIF research at NYUSM, paying patent costs related to this technology, and paying various milestone fees to the University. It addition, NYUSM and key NYUSM Professors have equity positions in the Company.

The Company filed a "Composition of Matter" US Patent Application and a PCT Patent Application covering the structure of CIF in 4Q2005. These two recent applications add to the Company's original US Patent Application covering the use of a factor as an anti-metastatic and anti-angiogenic agent. These applications will eventually form the base for a contemplated umbrella of patents covering all aspects of CIF's activity.

Company Strengths

The company has a number of clear advantages that strongly support its future growth.

  • NYU School of Medicine Affiliation.
  • Management
  • Scientific Advisory Board
  • Clearly targeted scientific experiments and business milestones.
  • Clearly identified products.
  • Potential to create a therapeutic platform that can lead to a number of small molecular NCE's (New Chemical Entities), again increasing IP value.

Product Development- An Action Plan

The Company plans to pursue a multiple product development plan at least through the preclinical phase of CIF development leading to the filing of an IND.

It will look at both FDA Fast Track opportunities in ophthalmics and oncology.

Contemplated indications in the oncology area are glioma, renal cell carcinoma and melanoma, the disease that Biomega is most familiar with.

In the ophthalmic area proliferative vitreoretinopathy and adult onset wet macular degeneration are being considered.

Financial Support

Three primary entities currently support the work on CIF™: Biomega Laboratories, the NYU School of Medicine and the School's Department of Dermatology. In addition, Dr. Lipkin has applied for and received various government and foundation grants to support his work to date.

Biomega will be responsible for providing funding to move CIF™ to the next level of research, and the funds raised by the company will support those efforts for the next two years.

Where Are We? In Summary

CIF is the first naturally occurring peptide discovered that regulates the growth of cells in the body. And because of this, CIF and the future developed daughter molecules of CIF have the potential to effectively treat many diseases, but most notably cancer.

Biomega offers an opportunity for philanthropic investors that wish to give back to society; to do good in the World while they make a profit on their investment.

Biomega was founded by just such people.

We look forward to you joining us.
